Pandemic forces cancellation of airfield concerts

August 08 2020

A huge summer drive-in concert programme for Filton has been cancelled amidst ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic.

The team responsible for the YTL Arena Complex, Bristol, had been working with global entertainment company Live Nation to present an exciting summer of live music, theatre and cinema events.
The events were to be held on the former Filton Airfield, one of 12 locations which were planned to host Utilita Live from the Drive-In.
Among those who were due to perform in Filton were Brainiac Live, Russell Watson, Tony Hadley, Sigala, Gary Numan and Jack Savoretti.
A Live Nation spokesperson said:"The Live From The Drive In concert series will no longer proceed as planned this summer. We received huge support from artists, the live music production contractors, our headline sponsor Utilita and of course you, the fans. However the latest developments regarding localised lockdowns means it has become impossible for us to continue with the series with any confidence."
Sarah McBride, YTL Arena Complex  Partnerships Director, said:"We are bitterly disappointed that Live Nation have had to cancel their summer programme of Drive-In events throughout the UK. They had put together an exciting and diverse line-up for Bristol with several events selling out in days, further demonstrating demand for live entertainment in the South West.
"However, public health and safety must come first, and with government guidelines on‘local lockdowns’ Live Nation have had to take this very difficult decision.
The YTL Arena Complex team remains committed to our goal of creating an arena for Bristol and the south west and to bringing live entertainment to the region. We continue to work on our plans and look forward to the day that we can open our doors to the public."
Under the original plans, concert-goers would have arrived in their car and viewed the event from their own designated space in the arena site.
Full refunds were being issued directly to all ticket holders.
