Filton residents are facing a council tax rise of around £163/year after South Glos approved an increase of 3.99%.

This is on top of the 35% increase in the Filton Town Coucnil precept, necessary due to rising costs and falling revenue from the town swimming pool.

The average Band D resident will pay around £2140 for South Glos as well as Filton, Police and Fire precepts.

A south Glos spokesperson said: "Councillors approved an increase in Council Tax of 3.99 per cent, which will be used to support the continued delivery of quality services. As has occurred in previous years, an element of this increase is a precept, which will be spent exclusively on meeting the growing costs and demands for social care support for our most vulnerable adult residents. This year that precept is 2 per cent. It means the South Gloucestershire Council element of Council Tax for a Band D property for 2020/21 will be £1,543.37."

The Filton precept will bea round £315 and fire/police likely to be around £280, making the total bill £2,138 - or £213 per month spread over 10 months. Last year the total was £1,975.
