What will be in store for shoppers?

Can you tell us a bit about your background?

David:

I come from Watford, I am married with two children, and have lived in Bristol since 2001.

Anne:

I come from Surrey, I am married with four children, and have lived in Bristol for less than a week, having just moved from Birmingham!

 

How long have you been working with Asda and what roles have you had?

David:

I have worked for the company for 28 years, in which time I have run 11 stores, both in the Bristol and London areas.

 Anne:

I have worked for Asda for just over two years in the Birmingham region where I started in admin and cash office. I became a community life champion when the scheme was launched in March 2012. 

 

Can you tell us what to expect at the new store?

David: 

I am really excited about opening a new store in my home town.  Having last opened a new store in Melksham, I fully know what to expect and we have gone out of our way to ensure that all our new colleagues have great personalities and want to be there to serve our customers.  The retail park, which will be completely revamped with Asda as the main store, will be a great place to shop, eat and entertain.

 

Will there be clothes and other non-food items in the new store?

David:

 We will be offering our George clothing range as well as our general merchandise, but every clothing and general merchandise line that Asda stocks will be available in-store via our click and collect service, with products available for collection within 24 hours at no additional charge – so we can help customers choose when they shop.

 

How many colleagues will you employ and what type of jobs are available?

David:

The store will have approximately 250 colleagues, 220 will be new to the business.

 

Will there be home shopping options?

David: 

We launch home shopping on January 22, 2014, and we are still looking for personal shoppers and delivery drivers.  All job applications are online at Asda.com/jobs.

 

Tell us about Asda’s community work and how local people can get involved.

Anne: 

Asda has a "Chosen by You" voting scheme, where customers can nominate local groups and organisations to be voted for by our customers, using green tokens given out at the checkouts. This is a bi-monthly vote and the winner receives £200 from the Asda Foundation, while two runners-up will each receive £50. Alongside this we welcome local charities and groups to fundraise in store with bag packing or bucket collections. 

I will also look to work alongside the local police force, schools and council with varying projects according to local needs.  In my last store these included organising "cuppa with a copper", customer service and mystery shopper days for local schools, litter picks, healthy eating lessons for local schools, and working on a community garden and in an elderly care unit, to name but a few. Asda is one of the only supermarkets to have a dedicated colleague to work in the local community, and I am excited about getting our name recognised and respected in the local area for the work we do. Anyone can get involved, so come along to the store, or give us a call and I will be more than happy to see how we can help you.

 

How can people give feedback on the new store?

David:

We will hold regular customer listening groups to gather feedback and listen to
any suggestions they may have. The team and I will be in the shop talking to customers
every day and welcome any feedback.

We look forward to serving the local community and helping them to save money every day.

    Hi Anne, I am contacting you on behalf of Avon Harmony, a ladies a cappella chorus based in Horfield. Is there a way we can get involved with you? We are always looking for new members, and wonder if we can publicise ourselves in any way at your new store. We might be able to give a short performance in the foyer in your opening week for instance? We are a not for profit group, and as well as needing new members, we are always looking for new ways to raise funds, so would also be interested in any ideas you may have of helping with this.
