Filton is at risk of losing its library service - editorial comment
Published on: 29 Mar 2016
Filton is at risk of losing its library service.
This is not scaremongering or exaggeration. South Glos Council is making savings and the library service is in the firing line with the possibility that Filton Library could close altogether.
The proposals have been met with anger and shock by local people, head teachers and politicians from all parties.
Filtonvoice has launched a campaign to ensure Filton Library remains as the vital community service it is.
There is vocal support but this support needs to be heard. Consultations are sometimes rightly viewed with scepticism by the public but there is a real opportunity here for Filton people to show their feeling.
In our centre pages last month, we printed the consultation document.
You can also find it here.
You can post it to South Glos but we have also arranged locations across Filton where you can drop them off. Our primary schools will take them. The FACE youth and community building at Elm Park will take them, the council offices will take them and series of volunteers and councillors will take them.
Only with a vocal community will there be any chance of reversing this.
Please do not let this opportunity go. Take part in the consultation. We must not lose our library in Filton.
