A man has been jailed for more than four years after admitting a robbery at convenience store in Filton Avenue, Filton.
Staff at the Spar shop were left terrified after a man entered just before 7.30am on Monday, October 2.
He had his face covered and was brandishing a small axe, which he used to prise open the tills before making off with cash.
Marc Coles, 38, of Sarum Crescent, Southmead, was arrested on Thursday, October 5.
He appeared before Bristol Crown Court on Monday, November 6.
His Honour Judge Picton sentenced Coles, pictured, to 56 months in prison for the robbery.
He was given an additional eight weeks for breaching a suspended sentence he was given in September, bringing the total jail term to four years and 10 months.
Sentencing, Judge Picton said the offence was shocking and horrible and had left the victims’ confidence affected by the incident and the trauma it caused.
He described Coles as a serial offender with a terrible record and a breathtaking rate of offending, adding that the aggravating features of this offence had a major role in the sentence.
