‘Self-funded’ festival set for return in July
Published on: 15 Apr 2016by Rebecca Day Due to popular demand, Filton Festival is returning to Elm Park this summer - and the town council says it will be self-funding. A lack of cash, and Filton Town Council having to prioritise its spending, meant that the annual event failed to go ahead last year. But the town council has announced that it will be taking place this year, and is due to be held on Sunday, July 24, 12-5pm. Details are still to be confirmed, but festival goers can expect bands, stalls, fairground attractions, among other activities. Organisers are now calling on local musicians to come forward to perform on the afternoon. Lesley Reuben, the town clerk, said that the festival would also provide a perfect opportunity for any local groups who are wanting to raise money. She confirmed that the event would be self-funded. In December 2014, councillors decided to cancel the 2015 festival after hearing that £4,000 of council money was needed to help the event break even. The festival will be free to enter, but car owners will be charged £1 for parking. If interested in performing or for more information, visit: www.filtontowncouncil.gov.uk or call 01454 866698.
