Brownies dance down the aisles in charity conga

Brownies from Filton inspired by the life-saving work of the local air ambulance crew came up with a novel way of raising money for them.

Shoppers at Sainsbury’s East Filton store got a surpise on May 21 when the girls met up to dance the conga up and down the aisles and around the car park.

The seven- to 10-year-olds from the second and third St Peter’s Brownie packs danced for more than an hour, singing campfire songs and wearing either fancy dress or their uniforms.

Sponsorship money from family and friends will now go to the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity.

The fundraising effort followed a visit to the Brownie packs by a representative of the charity, who told the girls about their work of the emergency teams.

As part of their enrolment promise Brownies undertake to serve their community and, with the air ambulance based in Filton, the sponsored conga goes some way to fulfilling this part of their promise.
