Abbeywood School on lookout for former pupils

Abbeywood School is calling on former students to attend a special event next month.

A group of ex pupils have been meeting with school leaders to form an alumni association and the event on November 9th will be a chance to shape the future of the group.

A spokesperson said: "During the past few months a group of us have been meeting with the Senior Staff at Abbeywood Community School, with a view to launching an Alumni Association for ex-staff and students from Filton High School and Abbeywood.

"Dave Baker, the Executive Headteacher, and Judith Mee, the Associate Headteacher, are very keen to support links with the heritage of the school and as Dave was a PGCE student at FHS, he has fond memories of the school.

"The amazing success of the FHS 50th Anniversary weekend highlighted to us all the huge number of ex-students and staff who would like to remain in touch and we believe they may welcome enhanced links with the school and current students. "Informal contacts with ex-staff and students tell us that many would like to get together again and exchange news and reminiscences and consequently, we are planning our first event as an introduction to the new school.

"On Saturday, 9th November, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. you are invited to come to Abbeywood, meet up with old friends and enjoy a tour of the new school building – an experience which we can thoroughly recommend.

"Refreshments will be available and we will share something more of the vision for the future of the group and seek opinions on the sort of events people would like to see arranged.

"Please extend this invitation to any ex-staff or students with whom you have contact.

"If you are unable to come to join us on 9th November but would like to be involved, then contact us on or consult the school website for links to the group.

"If you are able to come, we would love to see you. There is ample parking in the new staff car park to the left of the pedestrian entrance on the Mile Straight or the ‘old’ parents’ car park is still available.

"There is also room behind the school. For disabled drivers there are spaces immediately outside the front doors.

"Follow the drive towards the College and school and after the pedestrian crossing turn right towards the school building. 2If you definitely intend coming, please would you e-mail us as it would help to know numbers for catering but, if you just decide to come on the day, that will also be fine."
